10 Security Enhancements for your PC

Before you spend your money on security, here are 10 elementary security enhancements for your PC that will protect you against the most common threats

1. Check for Windows updates regularly or make sure to setup automatic updates for the windows.
2. Install a personal firewall. Well Windows does give you a firewall but we all know that it is not that effective. I recommend Sygate, Zonealarm or Comodo free firewalls.
3. Of course, Use a very very very strong password which contains alphabets, numerals and special characters. You should always change them periodically and do not repeat passwords for your accounts.
4. You should install a free Antivirus (or better pay for one) and keep it updated(a daily update is preferable). Here is a list of top antiviruses free by my blog: http://hackanonymously.blogspot.in/2013/06/top-free-antiviruses.html
5. If you are using outlook, then you should always download the latest security patches as viruses are constantly being developed by some malicious programmers to hack into softwares.
6. Install a free spy ware blocker like Spybot Search&Destroy. You don't need to follow steps 2 & 6 if you have already bought an antivirus which gives you all these things(Nowadays almost every paid antivirus has these).
7. You can also join an email security list, so that you can learn about emerging threats quickly.
8. Don't always assume that the email sent to you is from the real sender, untill you have further reason to beleive that it is original, the mail could be spoofed (You get many such mails on the April Fools Day).
9. Don't write your password on a sheet of paper, try to remember it and do not give your password to any mail, even if it says 'support'.(This also includes some fake newsletter services that ask for your personal details.)
10. If you have a Wireless Service, turn on the security features: Use MAC Filtering, Turn of SSID Broadcast, and use WEP with the biggest passkey you can get.

I Hope this Article will help you. Do not forget to +1. :-))))

Top Free Antiviruses

What!!!! You are surfing the net without an antivirus....
Here I suggest you the free best antiviruses and recommend you to quickly install one.

1. Bitdefender Free Antivirus
                                     No nagging commercials
Incredibly easy to set up and recommended for techies and rookies. Provides efficient protection and does not cause even a bit of sluggishness i.e. your games will run at the same speed as usual and very very less load will be created on your computer.

Being fully compatible with Windows 8, Automatic and Add free (No nagging commercials which ask you to purchase premium services).....
                                   Unbreachable Security

2. Avast! Free Antivirus
avast! Free antivirusAVAST Software's avast! Free Antivirus 8 most certainly deserves to be on any list of the best free antivirus programs. avast! Free Antivirus has fully functioning antivirus and antispyware engines protecting your PC from threats from the Internet, your files, emails, and even instant messages.

Fully compatible with windows 8 too!!!

3. Comodo Cleaning Essenatials
Comodo Antivirus 6 from Comodo Security Solutions is another excellent program, easily one of the best free antivirus options out there. Comodo Antivirus 6 protects you from several threat sources, just as most of the other free antivirus programs on this list do.
Comodo Antivirus 6 works on Windows 7 and Windows Vista. (Well that means it does not work on Windows 8)
Comodo Antivirus 6 ranks as a Great free antivirus solution almost solely because of its Defense+ technology that, by default, assumes unknown files are threats instead of safe. That sounds like it might cause problems but Comodo Antivirus utilizes some other technologies to make the whole process silent but still very effective.
4. Microsoft Security Essentials
Anything From Microsoft is certainly welcome, (Almost, except internet explorer) but it is a fantastic antivirus program that protects you from all sorts of malware, updates automatically, and is incredibly easy to use.
Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) supports Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP. The anti-malware protection in MSE is part of the built-in Windows Defender tool in Windows 8. (Yeah!!!)
The thing is that it
  • Does not include a silent mode (so you might be bothered during gaming)

5. Panda Cloud Antivirus Free 2
Screenshot of Panda Cloud Antivirus Free 2 in Windows 7
What makes Panda Cloud Antivirus Free 2 one of the best free antivirus programs is that it does its job from "the cloud" meaning the hard antivirus work that typically slows down a computer is done on computers elsewhere on the Internet, freeing up your computer to work like it should and protecting you from malware even better.
Panda Cloud Antivirus Free 2 supports Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP.
It tries to install some toolbars and change your browsers homepage during installation, but you can easily overcome this by unchecking the specific checkboxes during installation

These were the top free antiviruses and I personally recommend you to install one to protect your PC from threats.

Recover from a virus attack

Sometimes even after a virus is totally removed from the computer with the help of an antivirus and the system is thoroughly cleaned, some users find it difficult to restore system settings and revert the damage caused by the virus. This is when our tool, Re-Enable comes in handy. Usually a virus locks your access to the registry editor and the task manager. So to fix it for lazy people like me, this tool can do wonders.

1. Download Re-Enable and execute it.
2. It can be used to enable registry editor, command prompt, task manager, etc. Just select the tools you want to enable and click on "Re-Enable".

Note: You will require .net framework 3.5 or higher to run this software.

Virus Removal: new folder.exe

Again a very frustrating virus. Spreads from copying itself to the USB drives and makes multiple new folders without any data in them. You can't delete it as it will reappear again and again. It sometimes makes the folders disappear on the pen drive which can then be only accessed by searching on the pen drive. Now you may think that it can be deleted with the help of deleting the autorun.inf files as I have indicated in my previous blog but as you can't access the registry or any of the folders i.e. you can't just delete it.

So you can do this easily with the help of another tool known as Smart Virus Removal Tool. Download and run it and then click on "Delete autorun.inf file" > "Remove virus from USB" > "Restore Default Windows Settings"

The virus will be removed from the pen drive and all the registry settings and the folders will be accessible again.

Virus Removal: recycler.exe

It is a virus which spreads from the pendrives as soon as they are attached to the PCs. It is a very frustrating virus as it is a little tough for the antiviruses to remove it as it copies itself almost everywhere to your PC. It mainly opens a door for the download of malicious and unwanted files to your computer.

To remove it follow the following steps:
1. Download flash disinfector or autorun eater and save it on your deskop.
2. Run the app, it will ask you to insert a pendrive. After inserting it click OK.
3. It will delete autorun.inf and then you can delete recycler.exe from the drive.

Virus Removal: autorun.inf

autorun.inf is the file which automatically execute programs when you open/connect a pendrive to your PC. Majority of hackers use this to spread their virus as it activates the file as soon as the drive is connected. Therefore if this file is not needed then it should be removed from the pendrive.

For novice users I recommend autorun eater as it detects the autorun files and scans them and if they are affected, it can tell you the file associated with it. It is helpful as most users don't know which file to delete after deleting the autorun file.
